Chikuni no Sho Archives and Chikuni Bansho Ruins

Description
Chikuni, one of the three Otari inns, was a key point on the road where the Matsumoto Clan's gatekeeping post was located until the beginning of the Meiji Era (1868-1912). Although the original guard station was located on the opposite side of the road, a building that reconstructed the appearance of the guard station in those days remains, and there are many exhibits in the archives of an old private house of a former feudal lord that was moved to this area, which provide a reminder of life in the old days. It is said that in the old days, a market was held along the gently sloping road at the end of the Bon Festival, where folk and farmers from the surrounding area gathered to enjoy the bustle. It is said that the main purpose of this kuchigome guardhouse was to collect taxes on the goods being transported, especially salt, and that the people were required to deliver 3 masu 2 gos. of salt from a single salt kamasu.
The museum is closed on Tuesdays and during the winter.
