This course starts from Oamijuku, which was a bustling cargo transfer station on the Shinshu side, and crosses the Oami Pass, the most difficult pass on the highway, to connect the remains of the Yamaguchi barrier station in Echigo. Although the course is demanding with many mountain slopes, it is a refreshing walk through a virgin forest of beech trees, clear streams and ponds in the midst of nature. There are also many reminders of the history and culture of the highway, such as stone Buddha statues, cow watering holes, and the ruins of houses.
