Oyasaka
- Description
- Oyasaka is a slope with stone pavements, Kobo no Shimizu, Nishiki Iwa (brocade rock), and Ushizugi Ishi (cow hitching stone), all of which are still intact from the old days.
It is one of the most difficult parts of the highway for walkers and oxen, and after crossing Oyasawa, the road becomes a steep, 99-fold ascent. Stone pavements were laid to prevent the path from becoming muddy, and remnants of these pavements can still be seen today.
