Genchouji Temple

Description
This temple, an old Soto sect temple, is said to have once stood on the opposite bank of the Himekawa River. The main image of the temple is a seated statue of the eleven-faced thousand-armed Kannon (Goddess of Mercy). The statues of the 33rd Kannon of the Saigoku region in front of the gate were carved by Takato stonemasons and are superb. A painting of a reclining image painted in the Bunsei era (1818-1830) remains as a temple treasure.
