Genchouji Temple
- Description
- This temple, an old Soto sect temple, is said to have once stood on the opposite bank of the Himekawa River. The main image of the temple is a seated statue of the eleven-faced thousand-armed Kannon (Goddess of Mercy). The statues of the 33rd Kannon of the Saigoku region in front of the gate were carved by Takato stonemasons and are superb. A painting of a reclining image painted in the Bunsei era (1818-1830) remains as a temple treasure.
